Diego Simeone has never been one to hide his emotions on the touchline.
The Atletico Madrid boss has built a reputation for living every second of a match, and Anfield provided another fiery chapter in his story.
Liverpool’s dramatic 3-2 win over the Spanish side ended with Simeone being shown a red card — and fresh footage now shows what really pushed him over the edge.
Reports suggest a Liverpool fan sitting close to the Atletico bench spent most of the evening aiming taunts at the Argentine coach.
Simeone appeared to snap after Virgil van Dijk’s late header sealed the game.
He stormed toward the Main Stand, pointing and shouting, before being held back by stewards. It was a scene that quickly went viral.

Why Diego Simeone was shown a red card?
Simeone later admitted he had lost his cool. Speaking after the match, he said: “I’m a person, I’m human.”
He also revealed that he had been insulted throughout the night: “Obviously my reaction is not justifiable; I insulted him, but it was 90 minutes of being insulted the whole time.”
The referee wasted no time in showing the red card.
Simeone tried to explain himself in his post-match press conference, but also made it clear he expects Liverpool to act: “When they identify the person who did this, it should have its consequences, but he who needs to stay calm and take the insults is me.”
The fan fires back
In a twist, the supporter in question seemed to enjoy the spotlight. Hours after the final whistle, he posted on social media: “Do I get the assist?”
The tongue-in-cheek comment quickly went viral, racking up hundreds of thousands of views. Football fans online joked that while Van Dijk scored the winner, it was the fan who created the real highlight of the night.
For Simeone, however, the matter is far from funny. He accepted responsibility for his actions but also highlighted the wider issue of abuse from the stands. As he put it, “In my place you just have to take it.”
Liverpool now turn their attention to the Merseyside derby, a fixture that rarely lacks drama.
With Simeone’s outburst still fresh in memory, fans will be wondering if Anfield has already used up its share of chaos for the week.
