The 2025 NBA offseason has slowed down significantly, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t notable names available in free agency and potentially on the trade market.
The Giannis Antetokounmpo situation has teams waiting for the slim chance that he actually requests a trade and becomes available in trade talks.
The Nets have been expected to have interest in Giannis if he indeed becomes available, but he’s not the only key player they have the money to acquire.
What other player can the Nets acquire?
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, “the Brooklyn Nets currently have the cap space to make [Josh Giddey] a significant offer.”
Giddey is a restricted free agent this offseason and has struggled in negotiations with the Bulls on details for an extension.
Fischer reported that Giddey is seeking an AAV of around $30 million, while the Bulls haven’t offered a long-term deal with an AAV higher than $20 million yet.

Being a restricted free agent does give the team protection, as they can choose to match any offers that their player might agree to with a different NBA team.
The Nets still have moves to make this offseason, but as of now, they are first in the NBA in cap space going into this upcoming season by a country mile.
Giddey could be a realistic pickup for the Nets, especially on a potential multi-year deal worth around $30 million a year.
Giddey averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists and 1.2 steals in his first season with the Bulls.
He had a very strong second half of the season, including a stretch from mid-February to the end of the regular season when he averaged 21.2 points, 10.7 rebounds and 9.3 assists in 19 games.
