NBA insider says Celtics will make summer trades: ‘Different roster’

The Boston Celtics were a hot topic on Tuesday as ESPN’s Shams Charania appeared as a guest on The Pat McAfee Show.

Speculation has been swirling around the Celtics since their disappointing playoff exit at the hands of the New York Knicks. Tragically, Jayson Tatum went down in Game 4 of the series with a ruptured Achilles, all but surely ruling him out for the entirety of the 2025-26 season.

Boston’s franchise outlook has changed dramatically, at least in terms of the next 24 months.

And when it comes to the upcoming offseason, Charania asserted that there will be movement on Boston’s roster.

“They’re going to make trades,” Charania said.

“The Boston Celtics will have a much different roster next season … they’ll definitely have a different roster.”

“The question is just how severe (the changes will be) …  You look at Jayson Tatum, of course he’s injured … (you) can’t really trade him. That’s really the face of your franchise.”

“I think after that, it’s really going to depend on what value (they can get).”

“I think teams are going to express a lot of interest in Jrue Holiday. Teams are going to inquire about Kristaps Porzingis. Teams are going to inquire about Jaylen Brown.”

“And I think the Celtics are going to have to identify, ‘What value can we get for each of these players? Which player does it make sense to trade?’”

Interestingly, Charania didn’t mention Derrick White, although it’s not hard to imagine various teams asking about White, too.

The general takeaway from Charania’s Celtics segment here is that Tatum seems like the only untouchable player on Boston’s roster.

Whether or not that’s 100 percent accurate is only known by GM Brad Stevens and perhaps the Celtics’ handful of key stakeholders, but if there’s anyone with an ear close to the ground concerning the Celtics’ priorities, it would be Charania.

It should be a wildly interesting summer for Celtics fans as they wait and see which of their team’s championship core will be headed out the door.
