There appears to be mixed signals about a six-time All-Star’s desire to join the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks were told to back off on any attempts to trade for Jimmy Butler, according to Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo! Sports.
However, Sam Amick of The Athletic seems to provide a different perspective.
“The Milwaukee thing I’m admittedly a little confused by because it’s been confirmed in a couple of spots,” Amick said on an appearance on FanDuel’s Run it Back. “I was told from somebody who 100% would & should know that Jimmy’s camp had not spoke on Milwaukee & also hadn’t been asked about Milwaukee.”
Amick’s comments suggest that the Bucks are not out of the Butler sweepstakes, but it’s hard to imagine the Marquette product returning closer to his roots, though a wild five-team trade proposal could get him there.
Meanwhile, O’Connor believes that the 35-year-old is seeking money over a chance to add a championship to his résumé, perhaps giving him one more opportunity to cash in before he calls it quits. It’s worth noting that the Bucks are a second-apron team and cannot aggregate multiple players in a trade.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard couldn’t even be traded straight up for Butler since the Miami Heat’s All-Star makes $11K more than both players.
The Bucks would almost certainly never trade their franchise superstar for a star five years his senior anyway.
Considering all of the factors at play, it’s unlikely that the Texas native will end up in Brew City.
