NBA Dunk Contest winners by year: Mac McClung, Zach LaVine, Nate Robinson top list of most wins in All-Star event

The Slam Dunk Contest’s popularity has come into question over the last decade, but the event remains the cherry on top of NBA All-Star Saturday Night.

Running for more than four decades, the Dunk Contest has delivered some all-time great moments. From Dominique Wilkins and Vince Carter to Nate Robinson and Zach LaVine, the contest has long been an opportunity for stars and role players alike to elevate their profiles.

A select few have claimed multiple Dunk Contest wins, including Mac McClung.

Here’s a look at the Dunk Contest winners by year and which players have won the competition multiple times.

Who has the most NBA Dunk Contest wins?

Seven players have won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest more than once, but only Nate Robinson and Mac McClung have won it three times.

How many Dunk Contests has Mac McClung won?

McClung has won the Dunk Contest three times, taking home the title in 2023, 2024 and 2025 despite playing in the G League.

McClung was near-perfect in 2023, posting three 50s and one 49.8 to fall just shy of a perfect score of 200 for the night. He beat out New Orleans’ Trey Murphy III in the finals.

A year later, McClung returned to the Dunk Contest as part of the Magic organization and got the better of Boston’s Jaylen Brown in the finals with a score of 98.8. His final dunk scored a perfect 50, the night’s only perfect score. 

In 2025, McClung defeated Spurs rookie Stephon Castle. All four of his dunks scored 50.

The contest was briefly replaced by a 2Ball competition with the WNBA in 1998, and All-Star Weekend was canceled during the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season.
