That’s right, Chris Quinn of the Miami Heat is the No.1 ranked head coaching candidate for the upcoming hiring cycle.

Quinn isn’t the most well-known assistant in the league, but he’s studied under Erik Spoelstra for over a decade and is lauded in NBA circles.
Quinn interviewed with the Nets last summer and the Hornets twice but has ultimately landed back in Miami — that is expected to change in the coming months.
Quinn played six years in the league and averaged 4.5 PPG and 1.9 assists per game over his career. He most recently played in the 2012-2013 season for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He appeared in 168 games with the Heat over three-plus seasons beginning in 2006. He played for both Riley and Spoelstra over his time as a player in Miami.
The Heat promoted Quinn this past offseason from assistant coach to associate head coach of the club. He’s expected to receive another promotion, this time in another organization, this summer.
“It was really a formality,” Spoelstra said to Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald regarding Quinn’s new title. “He’s been the associate head coach now for three or four years. So it’s just a formality of giving him the official title.”
Now with 11 years of assistant (or associate) coaching under his belt, Quinn appears to be an obvious hire for whichever team is in need. Of note, the Memphis Grizzlies hired Taylor Jenkins earlier Friday afternoon.
