NBA analyst tabs Bulls’ Josh Giddey as top remaining free agent amid standoff

The Chicago Bulls have been waiting to make their big move all summer, but it might be time to make it happen.

Over the past few years, the Bulls have been stuck in mediocrity. Outside of a surprising first half of DeMar DeRozan’s first season in town, Bulls fans have had little to be excited about in recent years.

So, last season, when Josh Giddey nailed a half-court buzzer beater to beat the Los Angeles Lakers in the midst of a tight play-in race, it felt like a big deal. Giddey played some phenomenal basketball in the final weeks of the regular season and might have given fans a glimpse of what’s to come.

However, the excitement about what Giddey might look like in his fifth NBA season has been on hold for a few weeks. While it seemed likely that Giddey and the Bulls might be able to agree to a new deal rather quickly, the process has dragged on and could easily go into August and beyond.

Still, the Bulls might be wise to simply lock up Giddey for the next few years. In a recent Bleacher Report article, Grant Hughes tabbed Giddey as the best remaining free agent on the market.

Although the rest of the league doesn’t have the cap space to make a run for him, the Bulls shouldn’t wait around and give any teams more time to talk themselves into the Australian point guard. Maybe the end of Giddey’s first season in Chicago was a fluke, but if Hughes is right about Giddey being the top free agent and he can take another leap, the Bulls need to get a deal done quickly.
