The Milwaukee Bucks suffered a heartbreaking loss in overtime last night to the Indiana Pacers, eliminating them from the NBA Playoffs. Moments after the final buzzer, a scuffle broke out between both teams, with two of the belligerents being Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton’s dad, John Haliburton.
ESPN’s Get Up co-host Ryan Clark had something to say about that scuffle. He believes the NBA needs to make an example of Haliburton’s father, and not allow him to ever be at another basketball game.
I believe he should never be allowed to be at another basketball game,” Clark stated. “He shouldn’t be able to come to the suite; punish him! If you’re gonna run on the court, if you’re gonna be big and bad, if you’re gonna put yourself above the game, don’t come to the game. Ever. You have to make a stand so no one else does this.”
While Clark has a point, as fans should not be starting scuffles with players on the court, his choice of punishment is harsh. Both Haliburton and his father apologized for his actions, and it was a heat of the moment thing.
The Bucks-Pacers rivalry has been building for some time now, as it started last year, when the Pacers bounced the Bucks in the first round for the first time. Tensions were going to boil over at some point, and last night was that point.
Overall, while Haliburton’s father was in the wrong, Clark’s punishment is over the top, and something less harsh should be the solution.
