NBA analyst explains why Nuggets shouldn’t worry about Nikola Jokic’s future

The Denver Nuggets are set for another contending season, and they probably don’t have much to worry about in terms of long-term success.

Over the past several years, the Nuggets have consistently been one of the top teams in the league when healthy. While Nikola Jokic has racked up three MVP awards and an NBA title, his supporting cast has often left fans wondering if he is satisfied with his front office.

After some seismic changes in Denver toward the end of last season, that no longer appears to be a concern. This offseason, the Nuggets have made some of the best moves in the entire league.

Denver made a change to its fifth starter, added a talented backup for Jokic and put together a much more reliable bench than it had last season. With all of that being said, the lack of a Jokic extension is the only real reason for Nuggets fans to be concerned.

However, The Athletic’s Zach Harper believes that there shouldn’t be any worries out of Denver about Jokic’s future with the franchise. As Harper wrote, these big offseason moves should be enough for Jokic to have full trust in the organization’s ability to build a contender.

Harper put his “concern-o-meter” for the Nuggets’ ability to re-sign Jokic at a 3/10. While his reasoning surrounding the Nuggets would effectively put his rating at a 0/10, Harper posed that the three-time MVP might simply be interested in walking away from the game after his current contract is up, which is a take that might have some more legs after watching Jokic see his horse win a race earlier this summer and the rumors about him considering retirement before his current contract even began.
