Jorge Lopez’s statistics told two very different stories.
On one side, he had a 6-0 win-loss record this season for the Washington Nationals. On the other, he has a 6.57 ERA.
Lopez also recently got in an argument with an umpire before allowing runs after he was flustered.
In the end, the Nationals decided Saturday to designate him for assignment, removing him from their 40-man roster.
Lopez pitched in 26 games this season and had some wild luck to end up with that 6-0 mark.

His first three wins of the season came in rapid-fire succession on April 23, 25 and 27.
In the first, he blew a one-run lead, but the Nats bounced right back to get him the win.
In the next two, he entered in tie games, ended an inning scoreless and then got immediate run support.
The fourth and fifth wins came on May 4 and 6.
Lopez threw 2.0 scoreless innings on May 4, his longest outing of the season, and the Nationals broke a tie game open.
On May 6, Lopez did the blow-the-lead routine again only for the Nationals to bail him out with run support again.
And on May 16, Lopez tossed a scoreless inning and got the run needed to get him another win.
The ERA is probably more telling of Lopez’s overall impact and ability at this point.
But maybe some other team out there will want to chase his winning luck.
