Napoli step up shock interest in Liverpool duo

Liverpool have shaken up the transfer market with their pursuit of Florian Wirtz. Although they have not made the signing official, the German international is close to completing his move to Anfield.

The Reds have already announced the arrival of Jeremie Frimpong and are chasing Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez. They may also sign a striker if they manage to offload a couple of players this summer.

There will be significant sales in this window, with the likes of Darwin Nunez already getting linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. However, a new suitor has stepped up their interest in the Uruguayan striker.

As per recent reports via Italian outlet La Repubblica, Napoli have entered the race to sign Nunez from Liverpool. Antonio Conte is a big admirer of the Uruguayan and is keen to reinforce his roster to defend the Scudetto for the upcoming season.

Interestingly, Napoli are also reportedly interested in bringing Federico Chiesa back to Italy. The Italy international had an underwhelming campaign for Liverpool and could be on his way out of Merseyside if he receives no assurance of gametime in the next season.

So there’s a possibility of Napoli pulling off a double raid on the Premier League champions. However, they will face significant competition from other teams, especially for Nunez.

Could Napoli pull off a double swoop over Liverpool?

Nunez is heavily linked with a move to Al-Hilal and with Liverpool’s intention to recover most of their £85m that they paid, Benfica will be a massive headache for Napoli.

Apart from Al-Hilal, clubs like Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest are also reportedly interested in Nunez.

The Uruguayan was signed in 2022 with high expectations, but the 25-year-old has struggled to live up to the hype. He netted seven goals in 47 games last season, which was his worst output for the Reds in three seasons.

Similarly, Chiesa joined Liverpool last season from Juventus for £10 million plus £2.5 million in add-ons. However, he never really made the impact that was expected of the Italian winger. He featured in 14 matches across competitions and scored two goals.

So there’s a possibility of Chiesa leaving the club, but some reports have suggested that Arne Slot believes the Italian could play a much bigger role in the upcoming season.
