Throughout a 162-game MLB season, there are games when the bats get hot. There are also times where an opposing pitching staff just doesn’t have it.
When both things happen in the same game, historic offensive showings are often the result.
Such was the case on Sept. 14, 1987, when the Blue Jays went yard an MLB-record 10 times in an 18-3 win over the Orioles. Given the nature of the record, it has been threatened a few times but has stood for nearly 40 years.

It is the first time in MLB history that one team hit three home runs on the first three pitches it saw. Adding to the narrative is that New York was facing pitcher Nestor Cortes, who spent the last four seasons with the Yankees before being traded to Milwaukee.
His first trip back to Yankee Stadium as a visitor is an unforgettable one, but not in a good way.
