The 3-point shot took over the NBA in the 2010s, with the Warriors’ “Splash Brothers” duo unquestionably leading the way.
While Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson paved the way for 3-point shooters after Ray Allen and Reggie Miller made their mark on the league, simply being able to shoot is more of a requirement than an asset in the modern NBA. Players who can’t shoot from beyond the arc are the exception now, with even plenty of big men developing 3-point shots.
As 3-pointers have increased and the game has changed, record books have been routinely rewritten since the rise of the Splash Brothers.
Here’s a look at the single-game 3-point records for teams and players.

Most 3s in a NBA game by player
Klay Thompson holds the record for most 3s in a game with 14 against the Bulls on Oct. 29, 2018.
Curry may be the face of the Warriors’ dynasty, but Thompson was an indispensable part of Golden State’s offense with his historic shooting ability. Few players could get as hot as Thompson, who once scored 37 points in a single quarter, and he was red hot on one October night in Chicago.
Thompson shot 14-of-24 from 3-point range and 18-of-29 overall, scoring 52 points with zero assists. He broke Curry’s record of 13, which had been set two years earlier.
Curry’s mark of 13 has been hit by two more players, but no one has been able to reach Thompson’s record of 14 despite the proliferation of 3s throughout the NBA.

Klay Thompson, 14 (Oct. 29, 2018)
Thompson shot 14-of-24 from beyond the arc in a 52-point outburst against the Bulls in the early weeks of the 2018-19 season. Already in the record books with the highest-scoring quarter of all-time from the 2014-15 season, Thompson torched Chicago to break his own teammate’s single-game 3-point record.
Stephen Curry, 13 (Nov. 7, 2016)
On the eve of Election Day in the U.S., Curry stole the attention. The Warriors star lit up the Pelicans with 46 points on a stellar 13-of-17 from 3-point range, breaking the single-game record held by himself, Kobe Bryant and Donyell Marshall.
Zach LaVine, 13 (Nov. 23, 2019)
LaVine matched Curry’s 13-of-17 mark from 3-point range in a Bulls win over the Hornets in 2019, scoring 49 points with no assists.
Damian Lillard, 13 (Feb. 26, 2023)
Lillard’s 13 3s weren’t the headliner from his performance against the Rockets on Feb. 26, 2023, as he finished the game with 71 points. It was the NBA’s second 70-point game of the season, with Lillard joining Donovan Mitchell in that club.
Kobe Bryant, 12 (Jan. 7, 2003)
The first player to ever make 12 3s in a game was Lakers star Kobe Bryant, who shot 12-of-18 from beyond the arc in a 2003 win over the Sonics. The struggling Lakers entered the night just 14-20, but Bryant’s 45 points helped L.A. build momentum for a dominant stretch run.
Donyell Marshall, 12 (March 13, 2005)
Marshall joined Bryant two years later with a 12-of-19 performance from beyond the arc off the bench. Still the record for most 3s off the bench, Marshall finished with 38 points (36 on 3s) in a Raptors win over the 76ers.
Stephen Curry, 12 (Feb. 27, 2016)
Before Curry broke the record the following season, he tied it with 12 3s in an instant classic win over the Thunder on Feb. 27, 2016. Curry’s 46-point performance is best known for his double bang-inducing heave to win the game in overtime.
Klay Thompson, 12 (Feb. 6, 2023)
Thompson threatened his own record with 12 3s on Feb. 6, 2023, when he shot a dominant 12-of-16 from 3-point range in a blowout win over the Thunder. Thompson finished with 42 points.
Klay Thompson, 12 (Feb. 24, 2023)
Thompson came back and drilled 12 3s again less than three weeks later, shooting 12-of-17 from beyond the arc in a 42-point performance against the Rockets.
Keegan Murray, 12 (Dec. 16, 2023)
Keegan Murray might seem out of place here, but he can score in bunches and did just that in a 2023 win over the Jazz. Murray shot 12-of-15 from 3-point range, pouring 47 points on Sacramento.
Stephen Curry, 12 (Feb. 27, 2025)
Vintage Curry appeared in a Warriors win over the Magic on Feb. 27, 2025, as the two-time MVP exploded for 56 points on 12-of-19 from beyond the arc and 16-of-25 overall.
Stephen Curry, 12 (April 1, 2025)
Curry recorded his fourth career game of at least 12 made 3s in a win over the Grizzlies on April 1, 2025, shooting 12-of-20 from 3-point range. He nearly triple-doubled with 52 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists and five steals.

11 others, 27 (tied)
There have been 11 other instances of teams making 27 3-pointers in a game, despite no team reaching the mark until the Rockets in 2019.

Damian Lillard holds the record for most 3s made in a playoff game with 12 in a double-overtime loss to the Nuggets in the first round in 2021. Despite the defeat, Lillard went ballistic with 55 points on 17-of-24 shooting, attempting to do it all himself against Nikola Jokic and Denver.
Thompson holds the non-overtime record with 11 in the game that made “Game 6 Klay” a popular tagline. His 41 points helped extend the Western Conference Finals to a Game 7, which the Warriors would also win to reach the NBA Finals.
