The Los Angeles Dodgers have been rolling to start the 2025 season, posting a 35-23 record that has them leading the way in the National League West. Despite their success, the injuries are beginning to mount, with superstar shortstop Mookie Betts being the latest player to hit the mend.
Betts has been tasked with transitioning from the outfield to shortstop for L.A. this season, and he’s done so with aplomb, while also hitting .254 with eight home runs and 31 runs batted in at the plate. However, he fractured the fourth toe on his left foot during a mid-night trip to the bathroom, resulting in his recent absence.
There’s not much that can be done to repair a broken toe, as it’s really more of a pain tolerance injury than anything. As of now, the Dodgers are hoping Betts can avoid a stint on the injured list, but MLB insider Ken Rosenthal revealed that the former MVP winner is going to miss a couple more games before a final decision is made.
“He’s gonna be out for at least a couple more days, we’ll see how it goes after that,” Rosenthal said on “Baseball Night in America.”

With Betts out, Miguel Rojas has been tasked with filling in at shortstop. The problem is that he is a major step down from Betts in terms of production, as he’s hitting just .229 with one home run and five runs batted in over 87 at-bats this season.
For the most part, the Dodgers lineup has managed to stay healthy through the first two months of the season, but they will have to figure out how to get by without Betts. They will be hoping his absence ends sooner rather than later, but these next few days will be crucial in determining how much time he has to miss.
