MLB trade deadline tracker: Live rumors, news, updates before 2025 deadline

JUMP TO:

It’s officially crunch time for MLB clubs to make last-minute additions.

The 2025 MLB trade deadline arrives at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, marking the last opportunity for teams to either go all-in on a playoff push or sell on high-end talent with their eyes on the future. This year, there aren’t too many true superstars known to be available on what’s become a seller’s market, but there are still some captivating names who could be on the move.

In the National League, expect teams like the Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Cubs, and Brewers to stock up on talent, especially in their bullpens, as they trend toward locking in playoff spots. In the American League, two division races could come down to deadline additions, as the AL East remains tight between the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Red Sox, while the Rangers and Mariners are eyeing the Astros’ lead in the AL West.

The teams that choose to heavily sell could also wind up as huge deadline winners. Will the Orioles (47-58) bite on offers for Ramon Laureano or Cedric Mullins? Could the Diamondbacks (51-55) focus on 2026 by selling on Eugenio Suarez, Merrill Kelly, or Zac Gallen? With a flurry of trades on the way across the league, it will be easy to lose track of who’s going where.

The Sporting News is tracking live updates on every deal and the latest rumors leading up to the 2025 MLB trade deadline. Follow along with it all below.

MLB trade deadline tracker 2025: Live news, updates and rumors

Mariners ‘making a play’ on Jhoan Duran

Seattle is “making a play” to acquire Twins closer Jhoan Duran, who has been the subject of more rumors on Wednesday. The expectation remains that Duran is traded on Wednesday, and the Mariners remain in the mix.

Mets acquire RHP Tyler Rogers from Giants

The Mets are trading for RHP Tyler Rogers from San Fransisco. The reliever has a 1.80 ERA in 50.0 innings this season, as he should make for a strong addition to New York’s bullpen as it pursues a division title.

Tyler joins his twin brother, Taylor, as a trade piece Wednesday. Taylor Rogers was traded from Cincinnati to Pittsburgh earlier in the day.

Per Jeff Passan, the Giants are getting RHP Blake Tidwell, OF Drew Gilbert and RHP José Butto in the deal with the Mets.

Red Sox showing interest in Yandy Diaz

Boston is “showing interest” in Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz, and they “could intensify efforts in the coming hours.”

Romero notes that Tampa Bay is “unlikely to move Diaz without a strong return, either upper-level prospects or an MLB player.”

Twins ‘expected’ to trade closer Jhoan Duran, Dodgers and Phillies linked

Minnesota’s interest in trading closer Jhoan Duran has been up in the air, but Nightengale reports that the Twins are now “expected” to deal Duran. He adds that the Dodgers are “in strong pursuit,” while the Phillies have also “been in heavy discussions” for Duran.

However, Minnesota has reportedly not lowered its asking price of Philadelphia’s top prospect, pitcher Andrew Painter.

The Athletic also reported that the Phillies “refuse to even entertain the thought of moving” Painter, who they view as “perhaps their best pitching prospect since Cole Hamels.” If they were willing to move Painter, The Athletic reported that Philadelphia would be much more in-play for Duran or A’s closer Mason Miller.

Reds land 3B Ke’Bryan Hayes from Pirates

Cincinnati has traded for Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes, per Passan. Hayes, considered one of the best defensive third basemen in the league, is under club control for five years beyond the 2025 season. The former Gold Glove award-winner is hitting .236 with two home runs and 36 RBIs this season.

The Pirates are getting two players in return for Hayes: SS prospect Sammy Stafura and RP Taylor Rogers.

Dodgers linked to Shane Bieber, Twins relievers

The Dodgers have spoken to the Guardians about former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber. Morosi also reported that LA has been engaged with the Twins on relievers Jhoan Durán, Louis Varland and Griffin Jax.

Angels, Nationals strike dealing involving Luis Garcia, Andrew Chafin

The Angels are acquiring reliever Luis Garcia from Washington, per Passan. Additionally, Ken Rosenthal reports that Los Angeles is getting LHP Andrew Chafin from the Nationals in the deal.

Rosenthal also added that LHP Jake Eder and 1B Sam Brown are heading to the Nationals in the trade.

Between the Nationals and Dodgers this year, Garcia has a 4.10 ERA in 37.1 innings. Chafin, also a reliever, has thrown 20.0 innings for Washington in 2025 while totaling a 2.70 ERA.

Guardians ‘trying to move’ Steven Kwan, Shane Bieber

Cleveland’s interest in actually moving on from its key trade pieces has been up in the air, but Feinsand reports that the team is “trying to move” both Steven Kwan and Shane Bieber.

Kwan is likely to draw a significant return due to his All-Star status and club control, while Bieber is nearing a return from Tommy John surgery but was one of the league’s best starters when healthy.

Astros-Twins talks on Carlos Correa still ‘far apart’

As buzz grows around Carlos Correa and a potential return to the Astros, Passan reports that while Minnesota and Houston have talked about a trade, no deal is close at this time. He wrote that the two sides are still “far apart.”

Braves acquire RHP Tyler Kinley from Colorado

Atlanta is trading for right-handed pitcher Tyler Kinley from the Rockies in exchange for a prospect.

Kinley, a reliever who has been with the Rockies since 2020, has a 5.66 ERA in 47.2 innings this season. In return, Colorado is getting RHP prospect Austin Smith, per Thomas Harding.

Eugenio Suarez market starting to ‘shape up,’ primary interested teams listed

Feinsand reports that the market for the Diamondbacks’ slugging third baseman is beginning to “shape up,” citing the Mariners, Cubs, Tigers and Phillies as the primary teams in the race to acquire Suarez.

Carlos Correa not in Twins’ lineup with ongoing trade rumors

With ongoing rumors regarding a potential reunion with Houston, Carlos Correa is not in the Twins’ lineup today. Nightengale also noted that Correa left Tuesday’s game “feeling light-headed,” which could also play a role in his absence from the lineup.

White Sox RHP Adrian Houser scratched from start, no trade yet

Adrian Houser was set to start for the White Sox on Wednesday night against Philadelphia, but the team announced that Tyler Alexander would start instead. Heyman reports that no Houser trade is done yet, but Chicago is “holding him out in anticipation of a deal” by the deadline.

There were rumors around Houser being a part of the Slater-Yankees trade, but that deal has already been made official with the one-for-one swap.

Houser has made 11 starts this season, registering a 2.10 ERA across 68.2 innings.

Yankees acquire OF Austin Slater from White Sox

The Yankees are adding another bat, acquiring veteran outfielder Austin Slater from the White Sox.

Slater has hit .236 with five home runs and 11 RBIs in 51 games this season. Per Jon Heyman, the Yankees are sending back RHP prospect Gage Ziehl in exchange for Slater.

Dodgers considered potential landing spot for All-Star OF Steven Kwan

The Dodgers are considered “in” on Guardians outfielder Steven Kwan, with Heyman noting that Los Angeles could offer top catching prospect Dalton Rushing, who is currently blocked by All-Star Will Smith on the team.

Carlos Correa possible reunion with Astros “very real”

Correa’s name was mentioned in rumors with the Astros, and McTaggart confirms that they are real. The Astros beat reporter adds that the presumption is that Correa would play third with Isaac Paredes out.

Olney and Passan predict Rays, Diamondbacks, Padres and Orioles will be the most active

Olney and Passan released a Q&A with one full day left before the trade deadline. Olney thinks that the Rays and Diamondbacks are going to be the most prominent sellers at the deadline. He added that the Padres will do “something” to improve their offense.

Passan adds that he thinks the Orioles will continue moving pieces, whether it be Mullins, Laureano or others. He agrees that the Dbacks will be busy. Passan also believes that the Marlins, Twins, Pirates and Guardians will be selling at the deadline. Both analysts predict that there will be a flurry of moves with just over 24 hours left before the deadline.

Mets targeting Luis Robert Jr., Cedric Mullins

We knew that the Mets were already in on Robert Jr. thanks to Feinsand’s report below. New York is also looking into Cedric Mullins from the Orioles, per Heyman. The Mets aren’t as in on the surging Ramon Laureano, but if he is moved, Heyman thinks that the Padres, Phillies, Giants or Reds would be where he ends up if he is traded.

Luisangel Acuna included in possible trade package for Luis Robert Jr.

Feinsand reports that the Mets are one of the biggest suitors for the White Sox’s Luis Robert. Even if the Chicago outfielder has struggled at the plate, he is still a plus-defender, and the White Sox still maintain a high price for him. Feinsand includes that Luisangel Acuna is among the names discussed on the New York side of the deal.

If Padres move Cease or Suarez, they want MLB players and not prospects

San Diego has a surplus in the pitching department. Dylan Cease and Robert Suarez are the most common trade candidates. Morosi reports that if the Padres end up moving either one, they want a MLB-level catcher or left fielder instead of prospects.

Jhoan Duran not traded…yet

Twins fans were worried when reliever Jhoan Duran was seen in the bullpen hugging his catcher. They thought he had been informed he had been traded, as Minnesota has started unloading players ahead of the deadline. Luckily, for now, Passan stated that Duran and his bullpen catcher were just hugging “because that’s what friends do sometimes.”

Blue Jays acquire RHP Seranthony Dominguez from Orioles

The Athletic’s Mitch Bannon reports that Toronto is trading for reliever Seranthony Dominguez from Baltimore, sending back pitching prospect Juaron Watts-Brown.

Dominguez has a 3.24 ERA and 54 strikeouts across 41.2 innings this season.

Dylan Cease a ‘prime target’ of Astros

Padres SP Dylan Cease is a “prime target” of the Astros, according to The Athletic, with Houston desperate for starting pitching after being hit hard by injuries. Framber Valdez and Hunter Brown have both been excellent this season, but the rest of the Astros’ rotation has been a revolving door. With the Padres willing to listen on Cease, Houston will be a team to watch leading up to Thursday’s deadline.

Sandy Alcantara market ‘picking up drastically’

It’s been unclear whether the Marlins would move on from their former Cy Young award winner, Sandy Alcantara, who has struggled this season. But Jim Bowden of CBS Sports and The Athletic reported Tuesday that the market for Alcantara is “picking up drastically,” with a “real chance” the pitcher is moved before the deadline.

Padres, Phillies, Mets among suitors for Luis Robert Jr.

The White Sox have long been rumored to have interest in selling on outfielder Luis Robert Jr., and on Tuesday, Ken Rosenthal wrote that San Diego, Philadelphia and New York are the “prospective suitors” for Robert.

He added that teams are also virtually calling the White Sox’s bluff in attempting to not giving up high-end prospects in a potential deal.

Blue Jays have talked to Pirates about bullpen additions

Pittsburgh’s David Bednar and Dennis Santana have been frequently mentioned as top bullpen trade candidates, and MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported Tuesday that the Blue Jays “have discussed trade possibilities that would involve a reliever going to Toronto” with the Pirates.

Toronto sits atop the AL East with a 63-44 record.

Nolan Arenado has come up in Astros-Cardinals trade talks

Star third baseman Nolan Arenado, who was highly expected to be traded in the offseason but remained in St. Louis, has come up in talks between the Cardinals and Astros, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported.

However, there “no momentum” toward a deal yet. Arenado is hitting .235 with 10 home runs this season.

Padres won’t be ‘pure sellers,’ but could sell to help current team

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal said Tuesday that San Diego, which sits at 58-49 and trails the Dodgers in the NL West by four games, will only sell “if it enabled them to get other pieces” that would help them in their 2025 playoff push.

“They’re not pure sellers,” Rosenthal said, mentioning Dylan Cease as a potential trade candidate if they do choose to re-tool by selling.

Emmanuel Clase situation ‘ended any chance’ of Guardians buying at deadline

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that with Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase being put on the restricted list due to a gambling investigation, that effectively “ended any chance” of Cleveland buying at the deadline.

Rosenthal added that the Guardians basically “know” they won’t be a playoff team with the ongoing investigations into their relievers, but they would have considered buying before.

Rosenthal also added in a piece for The Athletic that Cleveland is drawing “a ton of interest” in All-Star outfielder Steven Kwan, with the Dodgers, Blue Jays, Phillies and Padres believed to be in the mix. However, the Guardians would “set a high bar” for a potential return due to Kwan’s age, club control and track record as an All-Star.

Tigers bolstering pitching staff with Twins’ Chris Paddack, Randy Dobnak

Detroit is trading C/1B prospect Enrique Jimenez for two Twins pitchers, Chris Paddack and Randy Dobnak.

As the Tigers compete for the AL’s best record, Paddack (111.0 innings, 4.95 ERA) will be an innings-eater on the back end of their rotation, while Dobnak (5.1 innings, 1.69 ERA) will report to Triple-A as a depth option.

The Tigers’ move for pitching comes as Reese Olson, who had a 3.15 ERA in 13 starts this season, went down with a right shoulder strain that could end his 2025 regular season.

Rays acquire new catcher to replace Jansen from Marlins

As the Rays send out Danny Jansen, they’re also trading for a new catcher, sending out prospect Matthew Etzel for Marlins backstop Nick Fortes.

Augustin Ramirez had taken over as Miami’s starting catcher, allowing them to flip Fortes, a stronger defender than hitter with a career .225 average.

Brewers trading for Rays catcher Danny Jansen

Milwaukee added some power to its lineup and catching depth, acquiring Danny Jansen from the Rays. In exchange, the Brewers are sending out infielder Jadher Areinamo.

Jansen has hit 11 home runs while batting .204 this season.

Braves acquire veteran RHP Carlos Carrasco from Yankees

Atlanta traded for Carlos Carrasco from the Yankees in exchange for cash considerations. The 38-year-old Carrasco, along with Erik Fedde, will help fill vacant roles in the Braves’ rotation due to injuries.

Royals, Seth Lugo agree to contract extension that takes him off trade market

Kansas City starter Seth Lugo had been mentioned as a trade candidate despite the team hovering around .500, but on Sunday, the pitcher signed a new multi-year extension that will keep him with the team through 2027.

Lugo, who owns a 2.95 ERA in 113 innings in 2025, comes off the trade market to remain with the Royals for the long-term.

Braves add RHP Erick Fedde

The Cardinals traded right-hander Erick Fedde to Atlanta for a player to be named later or cash. Per ESPN, St. Louis will cover “the majority of what remains of Fedde’s $7.5 million salary for 2025.”

Fedde is an impending free agent who has struggled this season, owning a 5.22 ERA and 3-10 record. However, he did have a strong 2024 season between Chicago and St. Louis, and the Braves could use starting pitching right now with ongoing injuries to AJ Smith-Shawver, Spencer Schwellenbach, Chris Sale, and more.

Royals acquire OF Randal Grichuk from Diamondbacks

Kansas City traded for outfielder Randal Grichuk from Arizona in exchange for Triple-A RHP Andrew Hoffmann on Saturday.

Grichuk, a 12-year veteran, has hit .240 with seven home runs and 22 RBIs this season for the Diamondbacks.

Amed Rosario heading from Nationals to Yankees

After already acquiring Ryan McMahon, the Yankees got another infielder by trading for Washington’s Amed Rosario. New York sent the Nationals prospects Clayton Beeter and Browm Martinez.

Rosario, a former top prospect with the Mets, is batting .270 with five home runs and a .736 OPS this season. Most of his damage has been done against left-handed pitchers, so the Yankees will likely deploy him in lineups against lefties more often.

Yankees acquire infielder Ryan McMahon from Rockies

The Yankees traded pitching prospects Griffin Herring and Josh Grosz in exchange for Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon on Friday.

McMahon, who is under contract for two more seasons, has hit 16 home runs this season and also provides New York with strong defense at third base. The left-handed hitter has totaled at least 20 homers in every season since 2021.

Mets trade for Orioles reliever Gregory Soto

New York made an addition to its bullpen by acquiring LHP Gregory Soto from Baltimore on Friday. In exchange, the Mets traded pitching prospects Wellington Aracena and Cameron Foster.

Soto, 30, is a former two-time All-Star who hasn’t been quite as excellent in recent seasons, but he has totaled a 3.96 ERA with 44 strikeouts for the Orioles this season.

Diamondbacks send 1B Josh Naylor to Mariners

As Seattle competes for either the AL West crown or a wild card spot, it bolstered its lineup, trading for Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor while sending out prospects Brandyn Garcia and Ashton Izzi.

Naylor has hit .292 this season with 11 home runs and 59 RBIs. He’ll add to a Mariners offense that could use some more power behind slugging catcher Cal Raleigh.
