MLB Speedway Classic uniforms: What to know about NASCAR-inspired jerseys, hats for Reds, Braves

The Last Great Colosseum just got a rebrand, if only for a fleeting moment.

Bristol Motor Speedway has long been considered one of NASCAR’s most steadfast sites. Whether covered in weathered asphalt or caked in dirt, the colossus is iconic in the world of motorsports. But can that reputation translate to the diamond?

Early indications from the  MLB Speedway Classic suggest it can. Around 85,000 have already purchased tickets for the Braves and Reds’ matchup on Saturday night, more than any other game in MLB history.

What better way to celebrate the occasion — and its host site — than adding a few easter eggs to Atlanta and Cincinnati’s glint uniforms. Here’s what you need to know.

The Braves and Reds’ kits pay homage to their host venue — and the sport that typically takes center stage at the site.

Both jerseys feature custom jersey numbers that feature bold outlines, shadowing, and angle. The uniforms are a nod to the numbers that scrawl atop NASCAR chariots during races.

Players will also be adorned with caps, helmets, and bats inspired by NASCAR insignia of old. Atlanta’s caps include red flames atop the brim.

Cincinnati, meanwhile, features the checkerboard pattern that sprawls across the black-white checkered flag.

Batters’ headgear also features that checkered flag decal and slanted jersey numbers. It also comes with “speed-inspired woodworks.”

A commemorative patch sits atop each team’s right sleeve. Bats, too, are doused in color, marked by that familiar checkered pattern.
