The Boston Red Sox are currently 30-34, nine games behind the New York Yankees for first place in the American League East.
While it is still early in the season, it doesn’t look like the Red Sox will be contenders this year.
MLB insider Jon Heyman weighed in on the possibility of the Red Sox becoming sellers at this year’s trade deadline.
“They haven’t decided yet, another team that certainly doesn’t want to sell,” Heyman said. “They definitely also have some pieces if they do decide to trade… Jarren Duran is a guy who will be very, very sought after.”
Boston has a lot of talent on its roster, including several players that will be free agents after this season.
“I’m not saying it’s likely they sell, but if they do, it should be a very good sale,” said Heyman. “They’ve got some pieces as well, but as I said, even a few games under they do not want to sell.”

Boston has six notable players with one year of club control: Walker Buehler, Lucas Giolito, Aroldis Chapman, Liam Hendriks, Justin Wilson and Rob Refsnyder.
Buehler and Hendriks have mutual options for 2026, and Giolito has a club option for 2026.
Boston isn’t completely out of the mix despite being almost 10 games behind first place in the AL East. The club is only four games back from the third AL wild card spot and don’t need to make a decision just yet.
