The Atlanta Braves are currently 27-33, 11 games behind the New York Mets for first place in the National League East.
Atlanta sits six games back from the third NL wild card spot. While the club doesn’t appear to be contenders, the Braves have been here before.
In two of the last four seasons, Atlanta was under .500 at this point in the season and made it to the playoffs. One of these postseason runs resulted in a World Series championship.
Major League Baseball insider Jon Heyman weighed in on the possibility of the Braves becoming sellers at this season’s trade deadline.
“This is another team that doesn’t like to sell,” Heyman said. “But the National League is tough, they’re in a tough division, it is a possibility.”
Heyman mentioned how the Braves were expected to sell in 2021 but bought instead and won the World Series.

“They are in about the same situation now that they were then. Very, very unlikely that they sell, but if they do, Marcell Ozuna is a guy who will draw interest.”
Ozuna, 34, has been one of the league’s top hitters the last three seasons. This year, Ozuna has 10 home runs with 25 RBI while slashing .274/.418/.457. He leads MLB with 49 walks.
Heyman believes the Braves don’t have many players that the team would want to sell and thinks Atlanta is “more disinclined” to sell than other teams.
