The 2025 Philadelphia Phillies season has gone incredibly well so far. While Zack Wheeler is out for the year and Aaron Nola has struggled, along with the free agent additions of Jordan Roman and Joe Ross being net negatives, there is still a lot to be optimistic about this season.
One of the huge reasons why Phillies fans can look forward to the postseason is due to Kyle Schwarber’s presence at the plate. He’s one of the most dangerous hitters in baseball, and he leads the National League in home runs with 49.
But, he’s in the final year of his deal and set to hit free agency. However, according to MLB insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Phillies fans got an incredible update on Schwarber’s free agency plans.
Nightengale Has Bold Kyle Schwarber Prediction
Philadelphia would be distraught if Schwarber left in free agency, as the designated hitter has been one of the better players in baseball this season, and since he signed with the Phillies in 2022. As Nightengale predicts, a return is very likely.
“Forget all of the talk,” Nightengale writes, “Philadelphia Phillies slugger Kyle Schwarber isn’t going anywhere this winter.”
This is about as encouraging a prediction from an insider as Phillies fans could hope for. Schwarber isn’t likely to sign any extension or contract until the season is over, so this update from Nightengale is about the best possible update Phillies fans could get.
“He loves Philadelphia, and more important, the Phillies love him.” Nightengale writes. “They simply will not be out-bid by any team, knowing how vital he is to them as not only their greatest power hitter, but their ultimate clubhouse leader.”
In the offseason, the Phillies will likely see some competition for Schwarber. The Cincinnati Reds are a team to keep an eye on, as it’s Schwarber’s hometown team that has already made an effort to swoon the Phillies’ DH during the team’s trip to Cincinnati.

But this report from Nightengale suggests that the Phillies will pull out all the stops to keep Schwarber in Philadelphia. They won’t be outbid, which is the primary concern with Scwharber’s potential to leave in free agency.
He’ll likely command a deal north of $30 million per year, a significant increase from his $20 million per year deal he’s on now. But, with his slugging prowess since coming to Philadelphia, 180 home runs in four years, there’s no reason not to re-sign him.
If this report from Nightengale comes to fruition, and the Phillies do retain Schwarber, it’d be great news for Phillies fans. His potential departure is a huge cause of concern in Philadelphia, as he’s been integral to the team’s success since he signed ahead of the 2022 season.
Losing Schwarber was a huge fear of many Phillies fans, but as this report from Nightengale indicates, the Phillies might not have to worry about the fan favorite slugger leaving this winter.
