During the 2025 MLB Draft, the Houston Astros selected Xavier Neyens in the first round. Neyens is a third baseman from Mount Vernon High School in Washington who has made a name for himself over the last few years.
Neyens became just the 10th prep hitter from Washington to be selected in the first round. Before Neyens, it was Corbin Carroll who was selected in the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft.
Neyens was believed to have some of the best raw power out of any high school hitter in his class. He has also been clocked to throw 95 on the mound, making for more than enough arm to handle the long throws at third base.
As Neyens continue to develop in the organization, some fans are eager to see who may be the team’s first-round pick in next year’s draft. Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter has those fans covered, providing his early 2026 mock draft.
Astros predicted to select Sawyer Strosnider
In this mock draft, Rueter has Houston selecting TCU standout outfielder Sawyer Strosnider. Strosnider is coming off a year where he went .350/.420/.650 with 10 triples, 13 doubles, 11 home runs, and 51 runs batted in. After the season, he was named the 2025 Perfect Game National Freshman Player of the Year.
Strosnider was a basketball player and high jumper during his time in high school, so the athleticism is there. He could blossom into an excellent everyday outfielder at the big-league level if he continues to develop the way he has been.
