MLB analyst points out intriguing Trevor Story stat that separates him from all of baseball

The Boston Red Sox have been waiting for their star Trevor Story to finally have their breakout year with them after years of injury, and he finally has. Now, he leads the league in an unexpected stat.

According to MLB Network’s Mark DeRosa, Trevor Story leads the league in game-winning RBI, and is top six in game-winning RBI in a single season for the Sox since 1974.

“The clutch gene for this guy, a couple walk-offs throughout this year, a couple game-changing swings…he has changed the score for [Boston]. Game-winning RBI leaders this season, Trevor Story is at the top of the list with 19, Bo Bichette 15. Red Sox history, most game-winning RBI in a single season for the Sox since 1974…and there’s Trevor Story at the bottom, with 19 in 2025” DeRosa revealed.

This season, Story is slashing .260/.306/.431/.737 with 22 doubles, 21 homers and 83 RBI. Along with his crazy game-winning stats, Story has been worth every penny this season.

With a month left in the season, Story has a chance to keep pumping up those numbers, and maybe move himself up the list for the Red Sox. In any case, hopefully he continues to have that clutch gene in the postseason if the Sox get there.
