Minnesota reportedly tried to acquire 50 point Kings forward

Quinton Byfield is one of the more promising players of the LA Kings organization. The 2020 2nd overall pick is coming off back to back 50 plus point seasons, having amassed 23 goals and 31 assists for 54 points in 81 games this past season.

Over his 5 year campaign with the Kings thus far, Byfield has totaled 51 goals and 91 assists for 142 points in 260 regular season games. In the playoffs, he has touted 4 goals and 8 assists for 12 points in 19 games.

With that said, the Ontario native has been featured in trade rumors throughout his Los Angeles tenure, similar to young Kings defenseman Brandt Clarke. Reportedly teams around the league have been interested in the 23 year old’s services via Michael Russo.

Which team(s) have been linked to Byfield?

The team that has worked the hardest to acquire the emerging power forward is the Minnesota Wild. According to Russo, the team attempted to acquire him in the 2022 Kevin Fiala trade. While Minnesota did not receive the main piece they desired in return, it is fair to say the deal worked out for them as landed Brock Faber who has developed into a top pair defenseman for the club.

Despite being involved in past trade rumors, the Kings have stuck with Byfield by giving him a $6.25 million contract after the 23-24 season and he is rewarding him with his strong play.  It took him a little while to get comfortable at the NHL level, but now he’s really showing the league what he can do. It will be fun to watch him continue to develop with the Kings over the years as he looks to help return the Stanley Cup to LA.
