Amid a crazy rumor day in the NHL world, a new development has transpired in the Kirill Kaprizov Minnesota situation that thickens the plot.
Today, according to insider Frank Seravalli, Kaprizov reportedly rejected a 8 year $16 million contract extension. The deal would have made Kaprizov the richest player in the NHL.
However, Minnesota Wild GM Bill Guerin has recently made comments casting doubt on the legitimacy of this claim via “10,000 takes.”
What did Guerin have to say about the Kaprizov situation?
Bill Guerin claimed that the information regarding Kaprizov’s alleged contract rejection did not come from either the team or Kaprizov’s camp.
If true, this begs the question of where the info came from. Could it have been a possible leak from within the organization? Or was the report faulty and will Kaprizov extend in Minnesota after all? Or, perhaps Kirill is looking for a new deal with either more money or less term.
These are questions that are unanswered at the moment, but should receive clarity soon. Kaprizov is one of many big 2026 UFA names due a new deal with talks not yet resolved. What is clear is that this is a dilemma that Guerin and the Wild will want to solve sooner, rather than later. The last thing the team needs is their star player going into the season without a contract extension amid talks that he rejected an offer to stick with the club beyond this season.
We’ll see what happens as training camp approaches and talks between the parties should resume and for the Wild’s sake hopefully will resolve soon. The rest of the league hopes the report has legs as Kaprizov would be a hot commodity in the 2026 open market.
