Milwaukee Bucks superstar will sit out EuroBasket game

After some initial reports that Giannis Antetokounmpo wouldn’t be on any restrictions in the EuroBasket Tournament, it appears that won’t be the case after all.

Greek National Team head coach Vassillis Spanoulis has decided to sit Antetokounmpo out for Saturday’s game against Cyprus, and he will play against Georgia on Sunday, per Harris Stavrou of SPORT24.

Antetokounmpo dominated in Greece’s first game against Italy, scoring 31 points, snagging seven rebounds and dishing out two assists in a 75-66 victory.

The Bucks have been closely monitoring Antetokounmpo at the EuroBasket Tournament

Of course, the Milwaukee Bucks have been closely watching Antetokounmpo at the EuroBasket Tournament. The team’s franchise icon has been marred by offseason trade rumors all summer, and the issue isn’t expected to be resolved until Antetokounmpo’s time with the Greek National Team is done.

Antetokounmpo’s future with the Bucks is certainly in limbo as the team enters a bit of a soft rebuild. Damian Lillard was waived, Pat Connaughton was traded, and Myles Turner was brought in on a four-year deal. Regardless, the Bucks roster is a shell of its former self, and will be relying extremely heavily on Antetokounmpo should he remain in Milwaukee. After several first-round playoff exits in a row, the Bucks and Antetokounmpo find themselves at a crossroads, and could see their historic marriage come to a conclusion if the trade rumors come to fruition.
