Mikel Arteta confirms four-player exit list in Arsenal’s summer squad update

The 2024/25 Premier League season has finally concluded, and Arsenal ended their campaign on a high with a 2-1 win at Southampton on May 25.

The end of the season also means the Gunners will shift focus to the summer transfer market with Mikel Arteta desperate to bridge the gap between his squad and their rivals.

2024/25 is their third consecutive season of finishing second in the EPL table. So they need reinforcements to challenge Liverpool for the title next season.

However, before making wholesale changes, several players from their current panel are in line to leave this summer.

After the Southampton win, Arteta revealed the names of the players who will move on including Kieran Tierney, Jorginho, Neto and Raheem Sterling.

“It was important to win [vs. Southampton], it was important to say goodbye to a few players who have left our football club, to say thank you for their contribution,” Arteta told reporters.

“Some of them, like Kieran, they’ve been on this journey for six years with us. Jorginho, we’re trying to hug him, Neto and Raheem as well.”

What did Tierney say to Arteta before the Southampton clash?

Scotland international Tierney handed the lead to Arsenal in the 43rd minute, before Ross Stewart’s equalizer, and Martin Odegaard’s last-gasp winner.

However, it be a farewell goal for Tierney, as Arteta revealed the left-back predicted this outcome ahead of the game.

“Kieran mentioned it yesterday,” Arteta said “I’m going to score in my last game’… and he’s certainly done it.”

The defender is linked with a return to former club, Celtic. He joined Arsenal from the Glasgow giants in August 2019 and went on to feature in 144 matches for the Gunners.

The departing Jorginho has reportedly signed a three-year pre-contract agreement with Brazilian outfit Flamengo.

Neto and Sterling leave after season-long loans at the Emirates Stadium.

Neto joined from Bournemouth, and though he didn’t get many opportunities, he provided cover for David Raya. On the other hand, Sterling was brought from Chelsea to add firepower in attack. However, he remained a backup and only featured in 28 games this season across competitions.
