Michael Irvin guarantees Cowboys won’t trade Micah Parsons minutes before Packers deal

Dallas Cowboys legend Michael Irvin said Jerry Jones isn’t crazy enough to trade Micah Parsons.

Minutes later, the owner of the Cowboys traded Parsons.

News of the Parsons trade shook the NFL on Thursday afternoon, when ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Dallas traded its star edge rusher to the Packers. The shocking news especially figured to rock the world of any Cowboys fan who took Irvin at his word.

Just to belabor the point, Irvin discounts any possibility that Parsons’ trade demand was anything more than a contract negotiation strategy.

“There is no way the Cowboys are allowing Micah Parsons to go anywhere. All of it is part of the negotiations.”

And when he’s asked if he can conceive of a world in which Parsons is traded, Irvin answers, “Jerry’s not that crazy.”

Schefter reported in the aftermath of the Parsons announcement that Dallas is acquiring two first-round picks from the Packers, along with DT Kenny Clark. A former first-round pick by Green Bay, Clark had been with the team since 2016 and owns 35 career sacks.

Schefter added that Parsons and the Packers have already agreed to a new four-year, $188 million contract, which includes $120 million fully guaranteed at signing and makes Parsons the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history.

Parsons released a statement following the trade, thanking the Cowboys for his time with the franchise.
