The Dallas Cowboys are one game into the preseason, and Micah Parsons was nowhere to be seen on the field, leaving the big question of whether he’ll be with the team for Week 1. Moreover, one NFL writer believes this entire situation could’ve been avoided.
Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports stated there was a period in the offseason in which Dallas could’ve locked up their star defender when several other teams were inking their key players to contract extensions.
“The Dallas Cowboys could have gotten this done a lot sooner,” Sullivan said on CBS Sports HQ. “They could have done it earlier in the offseason when the highest-paid non-quarterback title was changing hands like a hot potato.
“I mean, it was Maxx Crosby, then Ja’Marr Chase, Myles Garrett, and T.J. Watt most recently. They could have really brought this number a lot lower, but the longer they waited, Micah Parsons’ number just kept going up. I think right now it’s over $41 million per season. That could have been a lot lower for Jerry Jones.”

While the Cowboys could have locked up Parsons to a contract extension, Sullivan does question whether Dallas and Jones enjoy the drama that comes with this highly publicized saga. Every NFL show and sports network is talking about this saga. As a result, could Jones be loving the spotlight with the regular season yet to start?
“Part of me wonders if Jerry Jones just likes this because we’ve seen it time and time again — whether it was Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Ezekiel Elliott — you can go back as well, taking it to the wire in terms of contract negotiations leading up to Week 1, being in the headlines, and ultimately, everything works out all hunky-dory; they’re back as a Dallas Cowboy,” Sullivan added. “I wonder if we’re just going through the same song and dance here with Micah Parsons.”
The clock continues to click on the Cowboys and Parsons, who requested a trade, but it seems that Dallas won’t honor that request, so somehow and someway, they’ll have to figure this out.
