Mets urged to chase two-time Gold Glove Award winner in free agency

The New York Mets have played well this season despite the number of injuries they have dealt with. They currently hold a 76-69 record, which is good enough for the final National League Wild Card spot for now.

Outside of the injuries, one thing that has held this team back is some of their outfield play. Excluding their corner outfielders like Juan Soto and Brandon Nimmo, center field has lacked offensive production.

Tyrone Taylor took over the job when Jose Siri hit the 60-day IL back in April. They then tried to make an upgrade at the trade deadline by acquiring Cedric Mullins, but he has also seen an offensive slump this season.

New York will almost certainly look for an upgrade during the offseason. Luckily for them, some solid players are expected to be on the open market.

Mets urged to chase Trent Grisham in free agency

Trent Grisham signed a one-year deal with the New York Yankees for this season and is in the middle of a career year. Through 127 games, he is hitting .241/.348/.470 with 30 home runs, 64 runs batted in, and 69 walks, which are all career highs for the seven-year veteran.

Fansided’s Jake Elman believes this is a player the Mets seriously need to target during the offseason.

“If it’s not clear already, we’re very skeptical that Grisham will return to the Yankees next season. However, we won’t be surprised if he stays in New York City, given how much sense he makes for the Mets. Signing Grisham allows the Mets to keep Brandon Nimmo in left field and erase any conversations about moving Juan Soto to center field. Grisham is a Gold Glove-winning center fielder who’d immediately improve the Mets’ lineup and outfield.”
