Mets urged to acquire former Gold Glove, Silver Slugger winner to address outfield woes

The New York Mets gave Juan Soto a 15-year, $765 million in the offseason. The Mets also brought back slugger Pete Alonso.

So, there is no shortage of cash in Queens as the Mets are desperately trying to make a World Series run.

With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the Mets figure to be buyers once again to make a final push to get over the hump.

Bradford Doolittle of ESPN named some trade ideas for all 30 teams with the deadline approaching, and he mentioned the Mets’ biggest need is to address the center field position.

In turn, he linked Chicago White Sox star Luis Robert Jr. as a target.

“When the Mets acquired Jose Siri during the offseason, it seemed likely that Siri was a stopgap solution while New York waited on some of its outfield prospects to mature. Tyrone Taylor has logged the most time in center, but he’s best suited for a complementary role. Among the prospects, Drew Gilbert is in Triple-A, but hasn’t hit there so far. Thus, center is an obvious position of need for New York, which seems like a great landing spot for Luis Robert Jr.”

Robert has struggled in 2025, hitting just. 177 with five home runs and 24 RBI. But, he still has a lot of talent and potential, and a change of scenery could be perfect for Robert after he endured the worst record in MLB history last year with the White Sox.

He has a Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, and an All-Star trip on his resume, and he is just 27 years old, so it could be a nice move for Mets.

MLB insider Jon Heyman also mentioned recently that the Mets have inquired on Robert, so this might be the perfect fit for both sides.
