The New York Mets look like contenders in the National League, but they have one clear spot where they could use an upgrade. The Boston Red Sox could provide them with a huge upgrade.
The Red Sox have received some interest in Jarren Duran, who was an All-Star last year. While Duran is playing well, he may need to be moved in order for the Red Sox to get top prospect Roman Anthony in the big leagues. FanSided’s Terrence Jordan tabbed Duran as a trade target for the Mets.
“Even if the Sox do deem Duran expendable, he’s not going to be cheap,” wrote Jordan. “(David) Stearns will have to decide which prospects he’s willing to part with, but that’s the advantage of having a suddenly strong farm system. The Mets could deal a prospect or two and still be in good shape, and they could turn center field from a liability into a strength.”
Tyrone Taylor has been the Mets’ primary center fielder, but his offense is not nearly as good as his glove. Duran plays great defense, but would be able to provide much more to the Mets offensively.
Taylor is hitting .239 with just one home run. Duran is slashing .273/.318/.424 this year with four home runs. He can also make an impact on the basepaths. He has 13 stolen bases and leads baseball in triples. Duran is under club control through 2028 as well.

Ceddanne Rafaela and Wilyer Abreu are signed to extensions. With Anthony presumably slated to become a key player for years to come, Duran may be the odd man out.
