Mets star Pete Alonso’s gutted reaction after Kodai Senga injury

The New York Mets got a 4-3 win over the Washington Nationals on Thursday. It was the Mets’ sixth in a row and second straight sweep as they remain on top of the National League West.

However, fans should be concerned with starting pitcher Kodai Senga’s injury scare. Senga went 5.2 innings, giving up just one hit with no runs en route to earning the victory.

But, he left the game early after suffering a hamstring injury. Pete Alonso fielded a ground ball and threw the ball over Senga’s head, causing him to jump and land awkwardly in pain.

After the game, Alonso spoke about the situation, per SNY.

“I still feel awful, because for me, just trying to make a baseball play, trying to make a play for my pitcher. I tried to make the best throw I could and it just sucks. It sucks to be involved in that…It sucks. You hate to see anyone go down, and it sucks being a part of that.”

“I wish it wouldn’t have turned out like that.”

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Senga sent his translator to tell Alonso that he felt it before the throw took place.

Still, Senga is expected to land on the IL in a tough blow for the Mets’ rotation. This season, he has a 7-3 record with a 1.47 ERA, so he has been a massive part of the team’s success, and Alonso just hates to be involved in a situation such as that one.
