Entering Thursday, the New York Mets have found their way back into the playoff picture. Despite losing three of their last four games, the Mets currently sit a game ahead of the Cincinnati Reds for the final NL Wild Card spot.
However, there’s still more work to do in the final four games of the regular season. This includes one last game in their series against the Chicago Cubs and a three-game series against the Miami Marlins over the weekend.
As of now, the Mets might be without one of their most promising starting pitchers if they can maintain their position in the postseason.
Mets update Kodai Senga situation, status unclear for rest of season
Starting pitcher Kodai Senga struggled in his second minor league start for Triple-A Syracuse on Sept. 18, giving up four runs in 3.2 innings. New York Mets manager Carlos Mendoza updated the press on the 32-year-old.
Mendoza said that Senga’s live batting practice in Florida was “just okay.”
“He didn’t feel like the velo was there, and that’s what we saw. He’s gonna continue to throw, and then we’ll see where we’re at,” Mendoza added.

It’s been a steep decline for the former All-Star candidate since landing on the 10-day injured list with a Grade 1 hamstring strain on June 12. Before the injury diagnosis, Senga posted a 7-3 record with a 1.47 ERA. Since his return, he’s 0-3 and his ERA has climbed to 3.02.
These struggles motivated the Mets to send him down to the minors and figure things out, but with less than a week left in the regular season, he hasn’t found a groove.
His struggles have left New York in a frustrating situation, and the $75 million pitcher could be on the verge of being left off the postseason roster if the Mets can get to that point.
