Mets predicted to lock in 4x All-Star with five-year, $135 million deal

The New York Mets enjoyed a surprising season in 2024 after they weren’t expected to contend. Instead, they won 89 games, secured the third National League Wild Card spot and made a run all the way to the NLCS.

They have some questions to answer this winter. Even after signing Juan Soto, they have yet to re-sign Pete Alonso. It remains to be seen if they will keep the slugger around.

However, Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report believes that Alonso will ultimately remain a Met.

“This is our original contract and team prediction for Pete Alonso, and we’re sticking with it,” Kelly wrote.

“Since the start of the 2021 season, Alonso is fourth in home runs (157) and third in RBI (431). If you need an idea of how high of a bar he’s set for himself as a slugger, Alonso just hit 34 home runs in what was considered a down year. Of course, that down regular season came before a postseason where he posted a .999 OPS and helped the Mets make a rather shocking run to the NLCS.”

Alonso came up to the Major Leagues with the Mets in 2019 and won the NL Rookie of the Year award after hitting 53 home runs.

The four-time All-Star hit just .240 last year, but also hit 34 home runs, drove in 88 runs, reached base at a .329 clip and slugged .459 with a 123 OPS+.

The Mets will face competition for Alonso, but they appear to be the favorites to bring him back for 2025 and beyond. We’ll see how his market develops.
