The New York Mets are 11-6 to start the season, but Francisco Lindor has not been playing his best baseball. He opened up about his struggles, specifically defensively.
Lindor’s slow start at the plate should not be too concerning, as it is very similar to what happened last season. He ended up as the National League MVP runner-up and won a Silver Slugger. However, this season, his early struggles at the plate are paired with errors in the field. Lindor has a MLB-leading four errors and spoke on his struggles.
“It’s unacceptable what’s happening right now. It’s unacceptable. I gotta be better. It’s not to the standards the Mets have, it’s definitely not to the standard I have for myself. It’s been 2 games already that cost the team,” Lindor told reporters.
Last season, Lindor had 12 errors in the whole season. Four errors in the first 17 games is not what fans and the Mets expected from their MVP candidate.
The Mets made big moves this offseason, going all-in for a World Series. They signed Juan Soto and brought back Pete Alonso. Alonso is off to a great start, but his deal allows him to opt out after the season. This could be the only year the Mets have Soto, Alonso and Lindor together and cannot afford to squander it.

Lindor will have to tighten up defensively if the Mets want to win the NL East and make a run at the World Series.
