Mets could soon acquire $56 million Cy Young Award winner in blockbuster trade

The New York Mets were hit hard with injuries in their starting rotation before the season even started. With Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea working their way back, the Mets could add a true ace to their rotation.

The Miami Marlins traded two of their star players, Luis Arráez and Tanner Scott, last season and could move Sandy Alcántara this season. SportsGrid tabbed the Mets as a landing spot for him.

“The New York Mets, despite being division rivals, cannot be discounted,” wrote SportsGrid. “They have a few Top 100 prospects and could enhance their rotation dramatically with Alcantara. Names like Brandon Sproat or Jett Williams might interest Miami, alongside MLB-ready talent like Luisangel Acuña.”

Alcántara won the National League Cy Young Award in 2022. He struggled in 2023 and missed all of 2024. However, he is trying to rebuild his trade value this season.

Alcántara signed a five-year, $56 million deal in 2022. He is under contract through 2026 and has a $21 million club option for 2027. Even when healthy, the Mets’ rotation was not the strongest. Adding Alcántara would give them a workhorse capable of carrying them through October.

In 2022, he led the league in innings pitched and complete games. He could be a key player for the Mets if they want to get past the Los Angeles Dodgers.
