With the game tied at five and nobody out in the bottom of the ninth inning, New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo hit the game-winning RBI with the bases loaded in a 6-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. With the win for New York, they improved to 71-61 on the season, and Philadelphia dropped to 76-56 on the season.
The Mets trimmed their deficit in the National League East standings to just five games. New York is 5-2 this season against the Phillies, and they have won nine straight games against them at Citi Field. This baseball team has looked better as of late, and they could potentially be getting hot at the right time.
New York Mets Brandon Nimmo Makes Eye-Opening Comment After the Win
There is a lot of talent on the Mets’ current roster. Hopefully, the rough stretch is behind them, and the talent finally starts coming together. After the win for New York, Nimmo said to Anthony DiComo of mlb.com,
“This is the most talented team I’ve ever played on. So I know exactly what we’re capable of. It’s just going out there and executing it every night.”
Nimmo has been with this franchise for his entire career. New York was in the NLCS last season before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in six games. They were the sixth seed in the National League last season and currently lead the Cincinnati Reds 3.5 games for the final wild card spot in the NL. If the Mets’ talent finally comes together, they could potentially be a very dangerous team in the playoffs.
New York did not have outfielder Juan Soto on the roster last season as he was across town with the New York Yankees. Third baseman Mark Vientos is rounding into form, and Brett Baty also has had a very good season. Pete Alonso and Francisco Lindor might be the best players on the team outside of Soto.
The Mets’ biggest question will be whether the starting pitching and bullpen will not be hit-or-miss. They have the talent to be a serious World Series contender, and Nimmo and others within that locker room believe it. With that being said, can manager Carlos Mendoza push the right buttons with the lineup and bullpen moving forward? If so, the national media must pay close attention to the Mets.
