Meet Ethan Holliday, son of MLB legend Matt who is a top draft prospect after brother Jackson

Ethan Holliday might be the best of the bunch.

That’s what they often say about younger brothers. They’re always trying to keep up.

That’s multiplied exponentially in the Holliday family, where the boys were sons of MLB great Matt Holliday.

Jackson Holliday was the No. 1 prospect in baseball and now stars for the Orioles. Ethan Holliday is up next.

Who is Ethan Holliday?

Ethan Holliday is a shortstop from Stillwater, Oklahoma.

He’s the son of Rockies, Cardinals and Yankees ex-slugger Matt Holliday, and the younger brother of Orioles rising star Jackson Holliday.

Ethan played for the U-15 U.S. World Cup championship team.

He’s committed to play college baseball at Oklahoma State, although he’s unlikely to get there.

Ethan signed an NIL deal with adidas before his senior season of high school.

Across the board, the left-handed hitting shortstop is regarded as one of the best 2025 draft prospects out there.

In each of MLB.com’s last two rankings of this class, Ethan Holliday has been ranked No. 1.

Ethan’s dad, Matt, played in Major League Baseball from 2004 to 2018 for the Rockies, Athletics, Cardinals and Yankees.

Matt won a 2011 World Series with the Cardinals and was also a one-time batting champion.

Jackson was the first overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft and was the No. 1 prospect in baseball before his promotion to Baltimore in 2024.
