Mavericks trade proposal moves Klay Thompson for $134 million Celtics champion

The Dallas Mavericks are expected to be one of the teams interested in Boston Celtics guard Jrue Holiday.

Holiday, who has won a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks and Celtics, is one of the better guard defenders in the NBA. The veteran is well-respected throughout the NBA and would be a welcome addition to a team like the Mavericks, who have demonstrated a strong commitment to defense.

However, because of Holiday’s expensive contract, it isn’t as easy as it might seem for the Mavericks to get a deal done.

If they want to trade for him, they might have to move on from some of their top players.

In a recent trade idea from Jedd Pagaduan, they did just that. The trade would move on from Klay Thompson, Daniel Gafford, and Olivier-Maxence Prosper.

Mavericks trade: Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson, Olivier-Maxence Prosper

Celtics trade: Jrue Holiday, lottery-protected 2027 first-round pick

“Thompson could end up being a piece the Mavericks want to hold on to; he is the team’s best shooter (especially with Irving on the mend), after all. They would have to start Max Christie or Caleb Martin at the two if they end up moving Thompson. Nonetheless, that is not the worst thing in the world, and they can at least get off of Thompson’s contract which runs for two more years,” he wrote.

Moving on from Thompson and Gafford in this scenario could be a tough ask for the Mavericks. However, many expect Gafford to leave in free agency after next season, making this a trade where they’re only moving on from Thompson.

Regarding Thompson, he had a quieter year in comparison to some of his previous seasons, but he’s still one of the premier three-point shooters in the NBA.
