The Dallas Mavericks are seeking a playmaker for the 2025-26 NBA season in place of Kyrie Irving, who tore his ACL in March and will miss all of the next season. Their search might stop at the Boston Celtics NBA Champion Jrue Holiday. The veteran guard will certainly like to play on this Mavericks roster, which will boast several scoring options in Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson and likely top pick of this year’s draft, Cooper Flagg.
Meanwhile, when it comes to the Celtics, with a massive tax bill on their hands, due to the second apron tax penalties, they are looking to cut players and Holiday could be one player they could part with through trade.
According to The Athletic, the trade makes sense for Dallas since Brandon Williams is the only point guard healthy to open next season. With Holiday, they get a top-notch defense as well, so it’s a win-win situation here.
Another source indicating interest from the Mavericks for veteran guard is Jake Fischer, who said Dallas, along with the Sacramento Kings, have shown “preliminary interest.”
In a proposed trade from the CBAMavs account:
- The Mavs receive Jrue Holiday, 2025 first-round pick (ATL, 22nd overall), 2025 first-round pick (BOS, 28th), 2025 second-round pick (BOS via Wizards, 32nd) and future second-round pick (ATL).
- The Celtics receive Caleb Martin and Olivier-Maxence Prosper.
- The Nets receive Jaden Hardy and a future second-round pick (BOS).
- The Hawks receive Daniel Gafford.
The only issue with Holiday is that he comes with a price tag. He still has three years and almost $102 million contract left on his extension.
So, if the Mavs want a perfect replacement for Kyrie Irving, they need to look no further than Holiday, but it will need them to shed some hefty salary for it. Or else they can always go another way.
