The Dallas Mavericks have made some questionable decisions in recent years, and trading Luka Doncic was certainly the biggest. Trading Doncic will never make sense, regardless of what the Mavericks do over the next few decades.
They could win 10 championships, and trading a fan favorite of that caliber still wouldn’t be reasonable.
However, the Mavericks did what they did, and all they can do is learn from it. They’ve certainly heard all of the pushback from fans, the media, and NBA circles.
Regardless, the decision has been made, and all the Mavericks can do is look towards the future.
They seemingly did so earlier in the week when they denied the New York Knicks the opportunity to interview Jason Kidd. After the Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau, many believe that Kidd could’ve been the Knicks’ head coach.
However, the Mavericks not doing that signaled that they believe in their head coach, and Brian Windhorst of ESPN believes that it was a strong message to the rest of the league.
“I think the most important thing here is the message that the Mavericks sent out here was not that his was a ‘Nah.’ This was a ‘No.’ They are not interested in further negotiations at all – ‘Don’t even call back’ is the message they wanted out there,” Windhorst stated earlier this week.

This was a strong message to the rest of the NBA, as the Mavericks are serious about winning a championship in the near future.
Nico Harrison has repeatedly stated that he believes his team has a chance, and with Kidd as his head coach, he seemingly feels confident in him.
