Mavericks predicted to add ex-No. 2 pick, NBA champion via free agency to help cover for injured Anthony Davis

The Dallas Mavericks left everyone stunned after they traded Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis. Since then, the Mavs have been trying to adjust to the changes, but are doing it without Davis, as he remains out with an adductor strain.

The Mavericks are struggling with depth at center as players like Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II are out. Dallas needed to bring someone in, and they went with Moses Brown, who spent time with them back in the 2022 season. They signed Brown to a 10-day contract. Once that time is up, they can keep the 25-year-old center or look elsewhere for help at that position. If they choose to go in a different direction, there are candidates out there that they could consider.

FanSided came up with a list of centers they think the Mavs should have pursued over Brown. And depending on how things play out, those options are still a possibility. One of the names predicted to land in Dallas is James Wiseman.

Wiseman was traded to the Toronto Raptors in a deal where the Indiana Pacers received a 2026 second round pick. The Raptors waived him shortly after. Wiseman played one game with the Pacers, as he tore his Achilles. Injuries have been a factor since his time with the Golden State Warriors, but his time with the Detroit Pistons showed a glimpse of what he can do he is healthy.

The 23-year-old center could use a fresh start and Dallas can provide that. If he can play solid minutes and get boards, there may be a place for him.

Signing Wiseman is a low risk that could pay off. If healthy, the former No. 2 pick could become a solid backup center. If the move does not work out, the Mavericks can look elsewhere. Will they stick with Brown or could someone like Wiseman come into the picture?
