Mavericks predicted to acquire ex-Warriors $54 million NBA champion via trade

Reunions in the NBA aren’t hard to come by if the player’s first tenure went well or at least didn’t end with controversy.

In the case of Harrison Barnes’ tenure with the Dallas Mavericks, that didn’t happen. The news of his trade to the Sacramento Kings was announced in the middle of a Mavs game against the Charlotte Hornets. Still, FanSided predicts Dallas should consider reuniting with the former Golden State Warriors forward and NBA champion.

The article suggests moving Maxi Kleber and draft capital is enough to complete a trade. But the real question is, would Barnes be willing to play for the Mavericks once again?

Considering he’s 32 years old and past his prime, Barnes’ No. 1 goal is likely to lift the Larry O’Brien Trophy a second time. It’s safe to say the defending Western Conference champions hold a greater chance of fulfilling Barnes’ goal than the San Antonio Spurs.

“I got word of the [trade] during the game and so that’s why he didn’t play down the stretch, obviously,” former Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said after the game against Charlotte. “I had a chance to speak to him before everybody got in the locker room and thank him for over two and a half great years of being a model pro and being one of the most improved players in the game.”

Barnes is averaging 10.7 points and 3.8 rebounds on 48.1% shooting and 42.5% from three-point range this season with the Spurs. His leadership off the court and ability to stretch the floor at 6-foot-8 could benefit a team with title aspirations.
