The Cooper Flagg era is officially underway in Dallas.
The Mavericks’ rookie is a bigger part of what the Mavericks are building after a spectacular freshman season with Duke last year. And Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki appears to be a fan of the team’s direction.
During an appearance on the Dallas Mavericks Podcast, Nowitzki shared his thoughts on the New look Mavericks roster, raving about the depth of the roster, barring any health issues.
“If they’re healthy, they’re one of the deepest teams,” Nowitzki said. “I mean, if you look at just the frontcourt, how it’s loaded with talent, with players, the backcourt [too].
“I think they have two to three players on every position, especially when Kyrie comes back, and I saw him on social media, he’s already getting some shots up. So, you know he’s going to take care of his body and do everything he can to be out there. So, once he comes back and he’s the old Kyrie, this is a heck of a team that’s super loaded, and the main thing is, can they stay healthy for the long run?”
The Mavericks have been very aggressive this offseason in continuing to add pieces to pair with Cooper Flagg, Anthony Davis, and Kyrie Irving. So far this offseason, they managed to sign former Los Angeles Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell, along with extending P.J. Washington to a massive four-year, $90 million contract.
However, health has been a significant problem for the team last season.
Kyrie Irving, whom the team extended this offseason, is expected to miss most of the 2025-26 NBA season after suffering a torn ACL.Anthony Davis has battled nagging knee injuries throughout his career.
Even after trading Luka Doncic, the Mavericks have remained firmly in the mix in the Western Conference.Their roster changes signal their intent to compete for another championship next season.
