Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson reportedly joined the Mavs to play alongside Luka Doncic, but even after Doncic’s sudden departure, Thompson seems to still shine an optimistic light on where he currently stands with the franchise.
Following the trade of the century, Kyrie Irving tore his ACL, the Mavs lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Play-In Tournament, and drafted Cooper Flagg no. 1 overall, all of which happened in a span of three to four months.
Nevertheless, Thompson is with Dallas for the long haul as he enters what is likely his last few years in the league.
“I’m Just Really Excited”
On Michael Cooper’s Showtime With Michael Cooper podcast, Thompson spoke of his high hopes for the upcoming season, especially with a fully healthy Anthony Davis, and also after acquiring D’Angelo Russell.
“Anthony Davis, when he’s healthy…is the best power forward, maybe of my generation. I think we personally have the best front court in the NBA when we’re healthy. We have so much depth. And then getting a guy like D’Angelo Russell and having guard depth. I’m just really excited.”
In the 72 games that Thompson played and started in for Dallas, he averaged 14 points and boasted a three-point percentage of 39.1 percent.
