The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly in the market for a point guard in the offseason, with Kyrie Irving expected to miss time throughout the regular season with a torn ACL in his left knee.
In a three-team trade proposal suggested by Bleacher Report, Eric Pincus, the Mavericks could land Jrue Holiday from the Boston Celtics. The deal involves the Celtics, Mavericks, and Brooklyn Nets addressing each team’s needs and providing long-term flexibility.
Mavericks receive: Jrue Holiday (from Celtics), $3 million trade exception (Olivier-Maxence Prosper)
Celtics Receive: Daniel Gafford (from Mavericks), PJ Washington (from Mavericks), Drew Timme (from Nets),$32.4 million trade exception (Holiday),$2.5 million trade exception (Xavier Tillman Sr.),$2.4 million trade exception (Neemias Queta),$2.2 million trade exception (Porziņģis)
Nets Receive: Kristaps Porziņģis (from Celtics), Dwight Powell (from Mavericks), Olivier-Maxence Prosper (from Mavericks), Xavier Tillman Sr. (from Celtics), Neemias Queta (from Celtics),2026 protected first-round pick (from Celtics),2027 first-round pick swap (from Celtics)
For Dallas, Jrue Holiday joins a core that includes Anthony Davis, the No. 1 overall pick, who is expected to be joined by Duke star Cooper Flagg, and veteran sharpshooter Klay Thompson, providing a reliable and steady presence at point guard.
Holiday is coming off a down year statistically with the Celtics last season, averaging 11.1 points,3.9 assists, and 44.3% shooting from the field. However, he is still one of the best two-way guards in the league, a proven champion, and could be a steady hand that the Mavericks need to run their offense effectively.
For the Celtics, they shed salary by getting off Kristaps Porzingis’ and Jrue Holiday’s contracts while remaining competitive. They are acquiring Daniel Gafford and PJ Washington in the trade; both were pivotal rotational players in the Dallas Mavericks’ 2024 finals run, along with Nets sharpshooter Drew Timme.
Meanwhile, the Nets acquire a mix of veterans, young players, and draft picks, with the Celtics’ 2026 pick having top-four protection —a pick that would likely aid them as they continue their rebuild.
