Mavericks’ Cooper Flagg makes basketball history by breaking NBA record held by LeBron, Kobe

Cooper Flagg was the second-youngest NBA No. 1 overall draft pick ever, just a few days older than LeBron James.

That has allowed the Dallas Mavericks’ rookie to set a lot of records already having to do with his age. Flagg won’t turn 19 until later in December.

On Saturday, Flagg set another record for an 18-year-old player in the NBA.

He now has more games with at least 15 points, two steals and two blocks as an 18-year-old than any player in league history.

He broke a record previously held by both LeBron James and Kobe Bryant, according to Real Sports.

Flagg did it on an impressive Saturday night for the Mavs, who beat the Rockets, 122-109.

The Duke product finished with 19 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks. He was a plus-9 in his time on the floor.

That defensive impact reflected in this new feat is a big part of Flagg’s game.

It’s easy to look at his 17.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game and already assume Flagg is making a solid impact on NBA action. The defense is a big deal, too.

Flagg is averaging 1.3 steals and 0.7 blocks per game, and those numbers should only rise as he continues to adjust to how NBA teams play.

Flagg was the unquestioned No. 1 overall pick, and he has proven in the early going for the Mavericks that he deserved that spot. Dallas will have to figure out how to build around Flagg, but they’ve definitely got their cornerstone.
