Mavericks’ Anthony Davis earns spot on NBA.com’s top players in the West

With the NBA season just over two months away, NBA.com‘s Shaun Powell was able to break down the top players in the Western Conference. The Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis made the list, coming in at No. 6.

Davis, 32, was included in the trade in February that had Luka Doncic getting sent to the Los Angeles Lakers. It was labeled as one of the craziest trades in NBA history.

With his first full season in Dallas coming in 2025-26, the Mavericks superstar is still regarded as one of the best two-way players in the NBA.

Injuries have been a consistent problem for Davis in recent years. He’s played in more than 54 games in a regular season just once since winning a championship in 2021 with the Los Angeles Lakers. If he’s able to stay healthy in Dallas, a front-court duo between him and 2025 No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg can be a problem for other teams in years to come.

“His shooting range and post-up skills draw double teams, while his rebounding and shot-blocking make him nearly impossible to replace. Unfortunately, his constant fragility puts his teams in such a position,” Shaun Powell wrote in his top Western Conference players list.

Davis has played in just nine games while with Dallas. A full offseason to get healthy and build chemistry with head coach Jason Kidd will set them up with injuries being the only thing stopping them.

The 10-time All-Star is still under team control through 2027 with a $62.7 million player option for the 2027-28 season.
