Matty Cash pens new four-year deal with Aston Villa

Matty Cash has committed his future to Aston Villa, signing a new four-year contract on Monday (October 27).

The Athletic reported earlier this month that the 28-year-old, whose previous deal ran until 2027, had reached an agreement in principle on a new contract.

It was later reported that the deal also includes an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Villa then confirmed on Monday that Cash had officially re-signed, keeping the Poland international at Villa Park until 2029.

Cash came through Nottingham Forest’s academy, making 141 first-team appearances before joining Villa in September 2020.

The 28-year-old has had a blistering start to the season, indicating Villa’s strong ambition as they look to build on an impressive campaign last time out, both in the Premier League and in the Europa League.

Cash scored the decisive goal in Villa’s 1–0 win over Manchester City on Sunday (October 26), following an impressive display against Tottenham Hotspur the week prior.

“I’m playing with a lot of confidence,” he said on Sunday.

“To be honest, I’ve always had a good shot, I’ve just never really shown it in games.

“This season it seems to be going my way and every time I get the ball on the edge of the box, I’ve got confidence and feel like I’m going to hit the target a lot of the time.”

His recent contributions have earned him consecutive player of the match awards, helping Villa secure four straight Premier League victories.

Unai Emery’s side are currently eighth in the Premier League table and will face downtrodden defending champions Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday (November 1).
