Mark Cuban is no longer the majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks, which has loomed large since the franchise traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers back in early February.
Cuban himself has been outspoken about the fact that he wouldn’t have made that trade if he were still owner. During an appearance on Stephen A. Smith’s YouTube Channel, Cuban praised Doncic, but also made a cold claim about the Mavericks.
“The truth is between (Anthony Davis), Dereck Lively, and Daniel Gafford, that’s the best big three in the NBA, but Luka Doncic is a generational talent,” Cuban said.
Cuban didn’t clarify whether he meant that was the best frontcourt trio in the league, but what he says about those three when they are on the floor isn’t inaccurate. That’s a pretty talented trio of big men compared to other teams in the NBA.
The problem with his words is that, on paper, the Mavericks’ frontcourt is pretty talented, but whether all three can be on the court simultaneously remains up in the air. Davis came to the Mavericks with a reputation for being fragile, and he proved that during his debut with the team when he suffered an injury that forced him to miss some time.
If Dallas wins a title in the coming years, that will likely ease some of the criticism that’s come their way since the Doncic trade, especially if the Lakers don’t come close to a title. However, with their current situation, that’s not likely.

When fully healthy, the Mavericks’ roster is good enough to make the playoffs, but it will be a while before the entire roster gets a clean bill of health.
