Mariners-Orioles get rain delay update ahead of key game in AL West race

The Seattle Mariners’ quest to go in front of the Houston Astros in the American League West Division will have to wait a bit.

The Mariners are in Baltimore for a first pitch scheduled at 6:35 p.m. ET, 3:35 p.m. PT. The game will not be starting on time.

The Orioles announced the game would begin in a delay, with the announcement coming about 45 minutes before scheduled first pitch. No new start time was released.

It’s slated to be an impressive pitching matchup.

Logan Gilbert is going to get the ball for Seattle. He’s got a 3.35 ERA on the season and 118 strikeouts from his precise right arm.

The Orioles send their best pitcher, Trevor Rogers, to the hill. His ERA is 1.44 with a 5-2 record and 54 strikeouts.

Baltimore has had a disappointing season, at 53-66, but they’ve played a bit better of late and have a potent lineup.

Seattle enters the night 67-53.

That’s the same record Houston has heading into the night, with the Astros at home taking on the Red Sox.

There are still 42 games to be played for both teams, so nothing will be decided on this rainy Wednesday night in August.

But we’ve reached the point where every result counts.

And for the Mariners to proceed toward World Series goals, they need to keep winning. They’re 10-1 since the trade deadline, and they’d love to keep that rate alive a bit longer, especially on an active eight-game winning streak.
